This song came out three years ago, a day before the end of 2020. At the time, I said it would “give you an idea of what’s coming next,” which turned out to be true — I just didn’t know it would take me three years to become the person who could write, record, and release the album “You.”

I wrote Cosmic Dream 116 on the shared guitar from the Syracuse Acoustic Guitar Project. The guitar was passed between five songwriters, who each had a week to write and record a new song from scratch on it. In that guitar, I heard a song that was so weird and wonderful, simple and complex, evocative of such a specific feeling… it’s still one of my favorites. To this day, every time I hear it, I can taste and smell and feel 2020.

I remember stepping outside with Emma and seeing this gigantic ring around the full moon the night Cosmic Dream came out. It blew our minds.

There’s some magic in this song. For me, it represents a bridge between the old world and the new, in terms of what I’m singing about and the world I’m living in. It’s a dream, but also very tangible, just like life. It’s the seed that grew into the garden that is “You.” If you’re feeling reflective/meditative as we sit in the last days of 2023, this is a great one to put on.

Cheers to what’s next ✨
