Tomorrow (May 2) is Bandcamp Friday, which means bandcamp, a website that allows independent artists to upload and sell their music directly, is waiving their revenue share for 24 hours. That means anyone who buys a track or album from an indie artist can feel good knowing their monetary support is going directly to the artist.

It’s somewhat well known at this point that streaming services pay next to nothing. Personally, I made about $20 last year collectively from Spotify, Apple Music, etc. for thousands of streams. To put it in perspective, buying one of my albums on bandcamp would likely surpass the income I currently make from six months of streaming.

Obviously, you don’t have to buy anything. I don’t know a single person having an easy time with money right now. I’m going to keep my music streamable for free, because I believe in that value. But I want to make a post about this to call attention to this option, which I don’t think many people are even aware of—and if you feel so inclined, whether it’s me or another indie artist on bandcamp you’d like to support directly in a monetary way, tomorrow is the day to consider buying some music.

To everyone who listens to the music I make and supports this life-affirming, unique work that I do in myriad ways, thank you.
